Advanced Surface Technologies, a division of Vivid Inc., was established in June 2001 and
is home to one of the most complete thermal spray operations in the western United States.
All process delvelopment is integrated within and is focused on the utilization of automation.
We work closely with researchers at Stony Brook
Thermal Spray Laboratories (TSL) to develop new process technologies that are carefully
constructed to ensure the correct alignment between the desired finished product and the applicable process being used.
By utilizing resources such as Stony Brook and our team of materials science engineers, Advanced Surface Technologies has successfully
replaced typical trial and error pitfalls of process development with a unique blend of science and techonology.
Results of the newly defined process are then sent to CTC Engineering Consultants, where a complete evaluation of the coatings
is conducted. The results of CTC's testing are documented and formally presented to Vivid by CTC
in a technical forum to discuss coatings performance in terms of meeting customer needs.
Advanced Surface Technologies has closed the loop between process performance and product cost, allow us to provide our customers with
the best possible product coating and the lowest price in the shortest time possible.
Facility
AST's fully operational facility covers over 40,000 sq ft. in the heart of Silicon Valley,
including
three automated robotic spray systems, two plasma spray systems,
four twin-wire arc spray systems, three independent sound-proof rooms,
automated material handling systems, and a newly installed class 100 clean room.
Technical Support
Vivid understands the need for technical expertise in providing our customers
with the best innovative solutions. We currently have Material Engineers on
staff from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, home to the Center for Thermal
Spray Research. Additionally, all our
processes are developed, documented, and given criteria specific testing and
certification performed exclusively be CTC Engineering in Santa Clara, California.
Quality
We have integrated robotics into our thermal spray processes in order to provide
near perfect repeatability to a well conceived, documented and 100% reliable process.
This closes the loop between process capability and process repeatability, allowing us
to guarantee quality is built into the process.
